Edinburgh - St. Giles Cathedral

City: Edinburgh (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Èideann, Scotish: Embra, Embro or Edinburrie) has been the capital city of Scotland since 1492 . Its history goes back a long way. When the Romans arrived here they came into contact with the Celtic tribe of Votadini, who built a fortress (dun eidyn) on the Castle Rock. The city evolved from this small beginning. The city today is establishing itself as a tourist town with a perfect blend of a medieval old town, a newer city from the Georgian period (1720-1840) and today's modern architecture. The city is situated on the East Coast as the opening port to Scotland. There are approximately 450,000 people living here.

Building: The ‘St. Giles Cathedral’ or ‘High Kirk of Edinburgh’ is a church used by the Church of Scotland, or Presbyterian Church. Today it is used as a parish church. The first certified mention of this church dates from the year 854. The current church was originally founded in the year 1120, however, a fire in 1385 necessitated a rebuild, this time in Gothic style.

Object: God's name is to be found at the top of a window, as the Tetragrammaton.
