Forres - Coat of arms

City: In northern Scotland, on the shores of Moray, you can find the city of Forres. In the year 1140, Forres was granted the position of 'Royal Burgh'. This is a typically Scottish designation, which started in the 12th century. Because of this position, granted by the king with a Royal Charter, the economy in trade was promoted. History shows there was a castle in Forres around the year 900.

Today are living here 9,130 people (2004).

Object: The Royal Burgh crest shows St. Laurence in a meadow with blossoming palms. St. Laurence is dressed as a deacon holding a Bible in his right hand and leaning on a bed of iron bars with his left hand. These bars symbolise the iron bed on which he was burned death.

At the foot of the crest it is written 'Jehovah Tu Mihi Deus Quid Deest' - 'Jehovah, You are my God, what am I lacking'.
