Londen - Gunnersbury Baptist Church

City: London is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom. No less than 7.5 million people live in this City. Its history goes back to the Romans who called the city Londinium. The city was founded in the year 43 AD by the Roman emperor Claudius. Today, beside being the political capital, London is also the cultural and economic centre of the country. After Tokyo, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Paris, London has the next largest economy of the world.

Building: the Gunnersbury Baptist Church is on the corner of Wellesley Road and Burlington road. The church which came into use in 1873 replaced an ‘iron chapel’. Iron churches or chapels were built with a lot of cast iron in both the structure and decoration. The new Church, built in brick, was built in what is referred to as the early English style.

Subject: around the church there are 9 foundation stones. On 6 of them is the name of God. Four can be found on the left side of the building. Two others can be found on either side of the entrance door. Band of Images 2: On these stones is written Jehovah Rophi (Jehovah heals) and Jehovah Shammah (Jehovah is there). Band of images 3: Here it is written under two windows Jehovah Jireh (Jehovah will provide) and Jehovah Shalom (Jehovah is peace). Band of images 4: Here you will find under two windows Jehovah Tsidkenu (Jehovah is our justice) and Jehovah Nissi (Jehovah is my refuge).
