New Orleans - St. Louis Cathedral

City: The city of New Orleans lies in the American state of Louisiana. This city was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. The city, located on the banks of the Mississippi, is, besides being an important port and distribution centre, also known for its cultural heritage, especially music and food. There are about 311,000 inhabitants (2008) in the city, however when the suburbs are also taken into account the population rises to about 1,377,000 today. In 2005, the city was hit by hurricane Katrina, President Bush called it the most terrible natural disaster in the history of the USA. The whole city came to be under water.

Building: The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Louis, in the heart of the city, is also known as the basilica of Saint Louis, King of France. It is the third church to be built on this location. It was built in 1789.

Object: We received the next picture with regard to God’s name. This photograph was taken with a mobile phone. At the left hand side of the altar is a table with two candlesticks. On the candlesticks, in a radiating triangle, God’s name is clearly placed in the form of the Tetragrammaton JHWH.
