Building:
Trinity Church.
The Trinity Church is a historic high parish church in
the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Trinity Church is located
at the intersection of Broadway and Wall Street in downtown
Manhattan. The present day Trinity Church (the third one)
was designed by architect Richard Upjohn. The church is considered
to be a classic example of Gothic Revival architecture and
was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976 for its
architectural significance and place within the history of
New York City.
When the church was inaugurated on May 1, 1846 it dominated
the skyline of the city and was a beacon for incoming ships.
However, due to the increase of economical activities around
Wall Street skyscrapers were built everywhere. This church
is located on the site across from the former World Trade
Centre (Twin Towers). During the attacks on the towers the
church escaped destruction.
